Learning to Grow
The rise of the internet means that pretty much anything you need or want to know is just a few clicks away. In this course, you'll find out that Christian learning goes beyond the simple access and acquisition of knowledge, you learn to grow.
Have you ever been with a group of friends, and talked about your favourite films and whenever anyone asks a question about when the film was released or the names of the stars in the film, at least one of your friends picks up their phone to look for the answer?
Many Christians have their Bible on the phone. You can search for verses and words and know the answers to questions instantly. So the lack of information is not going to be a problem.
Christian learning is not acquiring information. It has always been about growth – the transformation of:
• Minds
• Hearts
• Behaviour.
In the bible is a story (or parable). In it, Jesus talks about wise and foolish builders. Now what separates the two is one putting what they had learned into practice. They applied what had they learned and took steps to shape their life accordingly. (Read it here)
The church is a place in where you can gather a lot of information, through Sunday sermons, Bible study groups, books, and podcasts. The list seems to get longer annually. The question that Jesus might want to ask you though is ‘How is this information helping you grow?’
Try asking yourself two questions when you are reading a book or listening to a sermon:
1. What is Jesus saying to you through this?
2. What am I going to do about it?
Those questions can help remind you that you have a responsibility to keep on growing, to keeping seeking transformation in your life. You play an active role in the changes Jesus wants you to make.
Christian learning is not about just the acquisition of information or knowledge but the transformation of our lives. “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
